New Ping System, New Trap Rooms, and an Engine Upgrade!


What’s up peeps, it’s ya boy Josh with a new release for you all! Last week was the first time I missed a release (so sad), I encountered a bug I refused to ship, it took me a while to figure out the kinks, and through it all I decided to upgrade basically everything in the project! I upgraded the Procedural Generation plugin I use, and I figured why not upgrade the Unity Engine as well (actually I upgraded Unity to make VR development slightly easier but also more annoying). I’m over that now, so I’ve got two weeks of upgrades for you guys! The big update is the Ping System, which allows players to point out anything in the world. This should help players playing together, it’s also the first audio added to the game so enjoy the new hero voice, and let me know if that voice line sounds good or not. The other big update is new traps, I’ve got fire streams coming from the walls and ceilings now! It’s a good way to make movement more difficult, especially now that the extra spare rooms you normally see now spawn past these trap rooms. Good luck getting a fast time now!

Release Notes:

  • The Ping system allows players to highlight objects or things in the game! This way, players can show other players important things that they may be able to describe verbally.
  • The Player creates a Ping by looking at an object and then clicking the middle mouse button
  • A yellow arrow and line is placed on top of the object, and can be viewed behind walls and ceilings
  • The ping object will be obscured by the fog in the level.
  • The player will also say a verbal line when the ping is created.
  • The ping object also has an audio cue.
  • Made main scene trees and fire particles static
  • Updated Materials on Prop Structures to remove transparencies
  • Upgraded Unity from 2021 to 2022
  • Created new fire stream traps that fire horizontally or vertically!
  • Trap rooms now have a random size, with width being 2-4 cells wide, and 3-4 cells long
  • Spare rooms will now always spawn a powerup and a weapon
  • Spare rooms will now only spawn next to a trap room if at all
